The Duterte administration received a “very good” net satisfaction rating in its first three months in office, particularly in its campaign against illegal drugs, based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results released Thursday, November 17, and first published on Business World.
The administration got a +66 net satisfaction rating—equivalent to “very good”—as a result of its 75-percent satisfaction rating and 8-percent dissatisfaction. 17 percent were undecided.
SWS terminologies for net satisfaction ratings are translated as follows:
+70 and above = “excellent”
+50 to +69 = “very good”
+30 to +49 = “good”
+10 to +29 = “moderate”
+9 to –9 = “neutral”
-10 to –29 = “poor”
-30 to –49 = “bad”
-50 to –69 = “very bad”
-70 and below = “execrable”
Presidential communications secretary Martin Andanar welcomed the survey results and assured such findings would “not lull us to complacency” and instead encourage them to “get things done.”
“We thank the Filipino people for giving the highest initial net satisfaction rating obtained by an administration to the Duterte Administration,” Andanar said about the results of the nationwide survey conducted last September 24–27 among 1,200 adult respondents.
‘Excellent’ on drug war
Among national issues, the Duterte government received an “excellent” grade—equivalent to +78—in its campaign against illegal drugs, an item included for the first time in the SWS report card.
It got “very good” grades in eight national issues:
promoting human rights = +63
helping the poor = +63
promoting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers = +62
fighting crimes = +58
eradicating graft and corruption = +57
fighting terrorism = +55
defending the country’s territorial rights +53
distributing lands to deserving tillers under land reform = +53
It also got “good” grades in other areas:
developing science and technology = +49
providing jobs = +46
reconciliation with Muslim rebels = +42
foreign relations = +39
ensuring an efficient transportation system = +39
reconciliation with communist rebels = +39
ensuring that no family will ever get hungry = +37
and fighting inflation = +33
Andanar recognized much more needs to be done in addressing the country’s problems with four months into office.
“The president, as we all know, has been elevating the consciousness of our people from the gravity of the drug problem and the threat of terrorism and lawlessness. This means much work has to be done and we all need to roll up our sleeves and buckle down to work and get things done,” he said.
The pollster also noted that the Duterte administration’s net rating is the best among its predecessors, except for former President Benigno Aquino III, during their respective first three months in office.
Former President Aquino received a net rating of +64 (73 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied), which is also under the “very good” category.
