PH GETS 4 NOMINATIONS AT 2016 ASIAN TV AWARDS

The Philippines clinched four nominations at the 2016 Asian Television Awards (ATA), Asia’s most prestigious award-giving body for television.

GMA earned three nominations, with comedy program Bubble Gang in the running anew for Best Comedy Program. It will go up against programs from Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Bubble Gang won in the category in 2004 and was highly commended in 2008. In 2013, Michael V was highly commended by ATA for the long-running gag show.

Michael V, meanwhile, is nominated again for Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress for his role in “Pepito Manaloto.” He was adjudged highly commended in the category for the same program in 2015. All his fellow nominees are Singaporean acts.

Michael V had been nominated 11 times at ATA, having won back in 2001, 2005 and 2006.

GMA News TV’s Reel Time is also a contender for Best Social Awareness Program for its episode “Isinulat sa Tubig (Forgotten Children of the Waves)” alongside programs from Qatar, Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore.

Cathy Yang, anchor of “Market Edge with Cathy Yang” and “Business Nightly” of the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) is also vying for Best News Presenter, competing with nominees from Bloomberg, BBC, CNN and CNBC.

Yang, an award-winning international journalist before returning to ABS-CBN in 2015, won in the same category thrice in a row—2001, 2002 and 2003—for Bloomberg TV Asia Pacific.

Winners of the Asian Television Awards 2016 will be named on December 2 at Suntec City Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event will be hosted by Filipino actor Alden Richards alongside Adrian Pang, Stephanie Carrington and Baki Zainal.
