Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao is not closing his doors on the possibility of running for President in the future.
Though it is not topmost in his mind, Pacquaio acknowledged he is more focused on his duties as a lawmaker as of now.
“Malayo pa yun. Dito muna tayo sa problema ng ating bansa. Napakalayo pa yan para isipin (It’s still far off. We’ll concentrate on the current problems of our country. It’s too soon to think of it),” Pacquiao told reporters in an interview.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier teased the country’s boxing icon during a courtesy call in MalacaƱang last Nov. 14, raising Pacquiao’s hand in a gesture of victory and said in front of the media “For President na ‘to ha!”
Asked about Duterte’s “endorsement,” the senator remained mum.
“Siguro problema muna dito ang problemahin naitn, pag di natin naresolba natin, di natin nabago ang bansa natin ng six years, parang araw ko na rin sa pulitika,” Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao also said he believes winning the presidency is a divine appointment.
“Wala sa isip ko yan. Ang pagiging Presidente, ang Panginoon ang naglalagay diyan. Huwag nating masyadong mataas yan mga pangarap, eh gampanan natin ang trabaho natin para marami tayong matulungan,” he said.
