September 6, 2016, both powerful presidents, Barack Obama and Rodrigo Duterte are due to a bilateral meeting during the gathering of global leaders which took place in Vientiane, Laos and is hosted by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
However, Ned Price US National Security Council spokesman said: "President Obama will not be holding the bilateral meeting with President Duterte of the Philippines this afternoon."
"Instead, he will meet with President Park Geun-hye) of the Republic of Korea this afternoon" he added. This is to discuss North Korea's missle test.
Obama heard about the outspoken President Duterte's comments regarding the human rights issue and foul words towards him when he left from the Group of 20 Summit in Hangzhou, China thus, the reasons for the cancellation. He also asked his staff to speak to Philippine officials, whether they will have a constructive and productive conversations.
"I always want to make sure that if I'm having a meeting, that it's actually productive and we're getting something done" said the US President.
He shrugged off the matter, took no offense, and reasoned out that President Duterte is just clearly a colourful guy.
