Liberal Party lawmakers yesterday denied that they are hatching a plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte, says their members will not act as a "Trojan horse" in the super majority coalition at the House of Representatives.
"Definitely, LP is not a Trojan horse," said Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr., LP's vice chair and the former speaker. Same goes with Vice President Leni Robredo and Senate President protempore Franklin Drilon.
According to Robredo, there are no moves from the Liberal Party to unseat the President.
"We have not met on this and we deny that we are part of such plot if indeed such plot exists. The Liberal Party has nothing to do with it," said Drilon, LP vice chair.
There are 28 out of 33 LP members in the majority bloc while the rest are with the opposition bloc led by Reps. Edcel Lagman of Albay and Teddy Baguilat Jr. of Ifugao.
According to Belmonte, the chances of that said plan is zero and nobody will even think of it because President Duterte is overwhelmingly popular which amounts to a public approval of his programs. He also added that the President also has overwhelming majority in the House where impeachment starts.
An impeachment complaint requires a constitutional vote of one-third of all members of the House to send it to the Senate for trial. The 17th Congress has more than 290 members.
