Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa ordered his men to leave no stone unturned in hunting down suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa amid reports that he underwent plastic surgery to elude arrest.
"Ito ang hamon sa mga pulis ng Region 8. Maski ano pang palit ang ginawa n’ya sa kanyang mukha, alam ko na sa masigasig na paghahanap sa kanya ay matutunton ninyo rin ang kanyang kinalalagyan,” Dela Rosa told policemen of Police Regional Office 8.
Kerwin is the son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Ronaldo Espinosa Sr, who surrendered to authorities after President Rodrigo Duterte linked them to illegal drug operations and gave a "shoot on sight" order against them if ever they resist arrest. Mayor Espinosa denied his involvement in illegal drugs but confirmed Kerwin's.
Kerwin, who is reportedly out of the country, has sent surrender feelers but has yet to show up before authorities.
Mayor Espinosa earlier admitted that two retired PNP officials were Kerwin's protectors.
"Parang si President Duterte, ayaw daw niya magpresidente, pero gusto ng taumbayan. Ako ganon na rin, di ko pinangarap mag-chief PNP, di ko inambisyon yan, never, pero binigay sa akin kaya sabi ko may misyon si Lord para sa akin na ma-accomplishi tong mission na ito. Siguro sabi ni Lord, you have to do it so I will give it all, give my best shot, at sana kayo you’re with me," Bato said.
