A massive manhunt is launched against Jack Lam, tagged as a big-time online casino operator, that stemmed from a raid in Clark Airbase where more than 1,000 undocumented foreign workers were nabbed.
PNP director general Ronald dela Rosa tasked all police units to intensify the monitoring and intelligence-gathering to determine the whereabouts of Lam, a Chinese national who is on top of the game on the aspect of online gambling in the country.
This comes as President Rodrigo Duterte personally ordered the arrest of Lam and instructed the police to ensure he will fail to flee the country.
While the raid revealed the extent of Lam’s operation, the last straw for the president to order the arrest was his alleged attempt to bribe justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre and some officials of the Bureau of Immigration.
“The President’s order is to arrest Jack Lam. He (Duterte) is very angry and he wants Lam to be arrested immediately,” said Dela Rosa in an interview over dzMM.
“So I am giving orders to all my PNP units to arrest him immediately as ordered by the president for the case of bribery and economic sabotage.
“I already called up the Bureau of Immigration Commissioner. The order of the president is to arrest him to maybe we should find ways to catch him,” said Dela Rosa.
Once located and tracked down, Dela Rosa said they will hold Lam under custody until cases are filed against him.
“I presume the Department of Justice is already preparing the case,” said Dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa also urged the public to provide them with all the information to expedite the arrest of Lam.
With no formal case leveled against Lam so far, Dela Rosa explained the absence of an arrest warrant or any case against Lam is not a deterrent for them to carry out the president’s order.
He further expressed his readiness to face the legal consequences of making an arrest sans a warrant.
Asked on the case of retired police general Wally Sombero, Dela Rosa said they would include him in the arrest.
Sombero was reportedly the one who arranged the meeting with the justice secretary where the alleged bribery attempt occurred.
“So far I have not received any instruction about him but we will include him, we will arrest him if we see him,” said Dela Rosa.
