Trillanes Denies Cooking Up a New Coup Plot

Opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday denied allegations that he is involved in a plot to topple President Rodrigo Duterte's administration, saying there is no need for a coup plot since the administration is "self-destructing anyway."

Trillanes, who was known for launching a failed mutiny during the term of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, what is also unfortunate is how the incumbent leader is bringing the whole country down with his rhetoric.

Trillanes said he doubts there is already enough elements for a coup d’ etat to happen against the Duterte administration, saying the President’s fate is now up to the people.

“The armed forces, to the credit of President (Benigno) Aquino (III), he was able to professionalize the ranks that’s why it’s not going to be divided. They would move as one and follow the chain of command as long as the chain of command is true to their mandate to the state and to our people,” he said.
