Police and naval forces seized at least 16 motorized pump boats used by the Abu Sayyaf in their terrorism activities in Sulu, according to a statement by a military official.
Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said the Naval Command Amphibious Task Group 80.2 began the raids at the island town of Pata and Kalinggalang Caluang in Sulu late this week and this resulted in the recovery of 15 motorized boats.
Tan said the police force also launched similar operations in Parang town and secured one motorized boat.
All the seized and unregistered boats, according to Tan, were utilized by Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Alhabsy Misaya in the kidnapping of Indonesian and Malaysian tugboat crew these past months.
He added the acquired water vehicles were turned over to the Maritime Industry Authority as part of proper disposition.
The amphibious raids were part of the simultaneous land, air, naval and police operations to put pressure against the Abu Sayyaf, Tan said.
