A police from region 9 who got blind in the performance of his duty has been recognized by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) for his "courage and gallantry."
The former public school teacher who joined the PNP rank in 1998 and now a Senior Police Officer II in Police Regional Office 9, SPO2 Giovani Nalzaro was given a plaque of commendation during NAPOLCOM's 50th Founding Anniversary.
"This is my legacy to my children seeing their father suffered due to his conviction to public service as a policeman and in the fight against illegal drugs," said Nalzaro.
Nalzaro was hit by a bullet near his eye while in a anti-drugs operation in Zamboanga City. The damage has tremendously wounded his head which caused his to be blind.
Despite his condition, Nalzaro managed to continue his vow to eliminate illegal drugs in the country and maintain his legacy as a member of the Philippine National Police.
Nalzaro was one of the five police officials in the country who were awarded by NAPOLCOM during its year-long jubilee at Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
