Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar made a statement over government-run Radyo ng Bayan as he declared the anti-drug a "success," just a day after Duterte's return from his first foreign trip.
According to Andanar, the police operations are a success. However, he also emphasized that there have also been gang wars where they eliminate each other. He said that such killings were under investigation by the police.
Foreign critics need to first check their "moral ascendancy" before condemning President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody campaign against illegal drugs, Malacañang said on Sunday.
President Duterte made an impact during the ASEAN Summit in Laos after clashing with US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon over human rights.
However, according to Andanar, the president also managed to communicate the country's interest in exports, imports, maritime security, and its current goal to follow an independent foreign policy.
For Andanar, the president did the country proud by taking the United States to task for the massacre of Moros in Mindanao during the pacification campaign of American colonizers a century ago.
"The president made us proud because he fought for our rights and at the same time, he revealed the acts of the imperialists and our colonial masters in the past. We are for an independent foreign policy because we are a sovereign state. We should get up on our feet and wave our flag," he argued.
It is very known that the Philippines' bloody crime way already claimed nearly 3,000 lives in just two months. However, Andanar insisted that those slain have been killed in "gang wars" and not by shadowy vigilantes allegedly encouraged by the president.
Also, the government has insisted that those killed by the police died because they resisted arrest or fought back.
Duterte, who just took office on June 30 after winning the election, made a promise to kill tens of thousands of criminals, a vow that he has kept all throughout the campaign despite the growing international criticism.
