Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo may no longer hold a Cabinet position, but will still pursue thye advocacies of her Angat Buhay program, despite the absence of funding from the national government.
“We are in a good place in a sense that we have prepared for it. So the program would not require government resources,” Robredo, who resigned last week as Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairperson, said.
Angat Buhay advocates the delivery of adequate and effective anti-poverty programs to families and communities in partnership with private and non-government organizations.
Under the program, a first batch of 50 local government units have partnered with different stakeholders that can help them fund housing, livelihood, infrastructure and education projects, among others.
“The Angat Buhay program will not require the resources of government. We put in place OVP as a sort of conduit between private organizations, private companies helping LGUs that are in need,” she noted.
Apart from funding, the flagship program also “needs our diligence and handwork to continuously bring people on the fringes of society to thethose who are willing to help them,” she said.
While she was in Laguna last weekend to attend the anniversary of micro-financing institution CARD MRI Inc., she said that the Habitat for Humanity pledged to provide a water system for farmers in Malaking Patag in Culion, Palawan.
Robredo said that Culion Foundation, Inc. expressed support for livelihood projects also in Culion apart from its leprosy control and elimination program in the then Culion Leper Colony.
“As far as Culion is concerned, we are somewhat upbeat,” she said.
She also visited Coron and met with super typhoon Yolanda victims.
