The Philippine National Police (PNP) released on Tuesday, November 29 the computerized facial composite of the suspect who left the improvised explosive device (IED) discovered near the U.S. Embassy on Monday.
PNP director-general Ronald dela Rosa said the still unidentified male suspect, based on eyewitnesses’ accounts, is around 44 to 45 years old, stands at around 5 feet 5 inches, weighs around 60–65 kg, has medium build and fair complexion.
The suspect was also last seen wearing polo shirt, black pants and leather shoes.
Dela Rosa presented the digital facial composite in a press briefing at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) headquarters at Camp Karingal.
The PNP chief said at around 2:00 a.m., a street vendor saw the suspect alight a white taxi in front of trash bin along Roxas Boulevard where he left the bomb. Contrary to reports, Dela Rosa said the suspect drove the taxi and was not its passenger.
The vendor, the PNP chief said, will receive an undisclosed cash reward.
Dela Rosa continues to theorize that the Maute group could be behind the IED after it matched the bomb used in the September 2 Davao City blast. “We don’t know if he’s a terrorist who rented a taxi or just a taxi driver hired by the terrorist to deliver the bomb.”
“Puwede rin na mangyari na itong Maute Group or yung kanilang sympathizer…dito (Manila) or matagal nang nakatago dito, tawagan na lang nila ang symphatizer dito na ilabas ang bomba to create diversionary move,” he also said.
Dela Rosa assured the public’s security and hoped this will be the last of the group’s bombing attempt.
Manila Police District (MPD) chief, Senior Supt. Joel Coronel, said they are now reviewing footage from three surveillance cameras in the area that may have caught the incident.
