Getting off the drug list won’t be a walk.
Some 54 celebrities whose names are on the Philippine National Police (PNP) drug watch list won’t get away easily and certainly not by just submitting negative drug test results, according to Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director.
Albayalde told a press briefing at Camp Karingal that the celebrities should prove that the results are not “self-serving” and that they are willing to submit themselves to the police process to clear their names.
The names of the entertainment world stars were provided by sexy actresses Sabrina M and Krista Miler who had been arrested earlier by the Quezon City police.
Since then, artists from various television and radio networks had been announcing their drug test results – some posting their names on their social media pages – all yielding negative outcomes.
“May process para matanggal yung pangalan sa watch list natin. They should undergo a series of adjudication from the police,” Albayalde countered.
Reiterating that drug testing centers should be Department of Health-accredited, Albayalde said that drug tests should be conducted with the presence of police personnel to ensure the credibility of the results.
“Para mapatunayan na hindi self-serving ‘yung drug test,” he explained.
Background investigation shall also be conducted to prove the celebrities have completely stopped involvement with drug activities.
“If the information we get is that a certain celebrity had stopped, we will definitely remove him from the watch list,” he said.
Albayalde is proposing that a random on-the-spot drug testing be conducted among members of the entertainment and film industry, just as it is currently being done among the ranks of the Philippine National Police.
“We respect their right to privacy just as we respect the right of any other Filipino. But then again… pakita nila na malinis ‘yung kanilang hanay,” he said.
Albayalde said he was not giving drug-linked celebrities an ultimatum but that he was merely reminding them that anti-illegal drug operations are non-stop.
“The information we get is that most of them are users,” he said, citing reports that most of the listed stars share illegal drugs with their colleagues.
