Host and actress Kris Aquino asked for a second chance after President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday failed to make it to their scheduled interview at the National Micro, Small, and Medium Entrepreneur’s (MSME) Summit 2016 in Davao City.
Duterte missed the townhall interview because he was not feeling well. The president had just returned early Friday from a two-day official visit to Malaysia and a stopover in Thailand.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez announced that Duterte could not attend the summit, where the interview would have been held due to a migraine.
Kris then asked the president for a second chance.
“Hindi ko rin po alam kung dahil sa mga sitwasyon na nangyari sa ngayong linggo kaya ini-snub ako, pero, President Duterte, please give me a chance. I hope one day, mamahalin mo rin ako,” Kris said.
In jest, Kris said she will prepare for her next meeting with Duterte by going on a diet.
“Minsan, ang first date hindi natutuloy. President Duterte, pinaghandaan kita...26 na lang ang bewang ko ngayon. Sisiguraduhin ko pong magiging 25 para sa next time na pagkikita natin," she said.
Kris said upon learning that the president was going to miss the interview, she sought advice from her brother former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
“Sinabi ko ‘Noy, I’m alone’ sabi ko sa kanya, ‘What do I do?’ sabi niya ‘You made a commitment, nandiyan ka for Go Negosyo, nandiyan ka because you believe in the Philippine economy at nandiyan ka because you want everybody to be included in the growth of our economy,’” Kris narrated, adding that colleagues have missed shoots in the past.
She still pursued the interview with entrepreneurs despite the president's absence. It was her hosting comeback after a seven-month hiatus from Philippine television.
Around 500 entrepreneurs attended the summit. The interview aired on TV5 and was hosted by Go Negosyo.
