President Rodrigo Duterte revealed he intends to go to Thailand to pay respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
But the president stopped short of making concrete details on his travel to Bangkok in his disclosure to reporters while at his parents’ tomb at the Davao Public and Roman Catholic Cemetery in Davao City on Tuesday, November 1.
Thais are observing a one-year state of mourning following the death of their revered monarch—the erstwhile world’s longest-reigning head of state—last October 13 in a hospital in Bangkok because of his deteriorating health. He was 88.
Duterte also confirmed that he will travel next week to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He will discuss joint border controls with Malaysia in talks with Malaysian officials.
Duterte had earlier said he intends to intensify maritime patrols in the waters overlapping the boundaries of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, which are infested by armed pirates, including the Abu Sayyaf group.
