Families of policemen will have plenty of budget to spend this Christmas as the Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed that an additional P5,000 will be received by each policeman aside from their 14th month pay.
Director Archie Gamboa, head of the Directorate for Comptrollership, said both the P5,000 productivity enhancement incentive (PEI) and the 14th month pay would be available to police officers this Friday, November 18.
The release of the PEI or cash gifts was made earlier.
The cash gift for policemen and other government employees is being given purposely to encourage them to improve their services to the people.
Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, PNP spokesman, said the release of the cash gift serves as a morale booster to the 170,000-strong PNP.
Aside from uniformed personnel, Carlos said the PNP’s civilian employees will also receive the same cash gift.
President Duterte earlier vowed to double the salary of police officers and soldiers whom he said he would tap in the campaign against illegal drugs.
The promise is not doable within this year since the 2016 national budget is still being implemented. It is not immediately clear if the promised doubled salary would be doable under the 2017 national budget.
