Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Friday said President Rodrigo Duterte knew that the military burial for late president Ferdinand Marcos is underway.
Dela Rosa however said Duterte did not issue any special instructions for the military burial at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani, Taguig City set at 12 noon, Friday.
“Alam niya (Duterte) iyan, wala naman tayong espesyal na instruction. Maniguro lang tayo na peaceful yung paglibing, walang gulo na mangyari,” he told the reporters in a televised interview.
The PNP chief said Marcos' remains is expected to arrive by 11:30 a.m. brought by chopper. He said there are three expected choppers where Marcos family members are also on board.
Dela Rosa said Marcos will be be buried by 12 noon with usual military honors slated such as prayers, folding of flags and 21 gun salute.
He also said that he is just in the burial area to ensure a peaceful and orderly military burial. Asked if they are ready with the protests slated this afternoon, Dela Rosa said the PNP force is ready.
“Kaya ba nila makarating ngayon? Tingnan natin basta importante mailibing properly. Eh Libingan ng Mga Bayani ito e, it should be respected,” the PNP chief said of the protesters planning to occupy the national heroes’ cemetery.
Dela Rosa said he ordered the PNP to exercise maximum tolerance in case they hold protests within Metro Manila. “Maximum tolerance, hindi maximum paluan,” he said.
The military burial for Marcos is off limits to the media but Dela Rosa said the National Capital Region Police Office can decide on whether they will allow the media to cover the ceremony proper.
Asked what will happen with the plea of the petitioners if the Supreme Court reverses its decision, NCRPO Oscar Albayalde said they will leave it to the high court.
In jest, Dela Rosa said “Hukayan ulit ‘pag nilibingin na.”
