Anti-Marcos Burial Rally Gaganapin sa Nob. 25

A multisectoral anti-Marcos protest action is being planned at the Rizal Park on Friday, November 25, a week after former president Ferdinand Marcos’ remains were clandestinely buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Youth group Anakbayan said it will mobilize members and supporters from different schools and communities to join the Rizal Park protest and other actions across the nation.

“The youth are not ignorant of the crimes of the Marcos dictatorship from massive corruption to human rights abuses,” said Anakbayan national secretary general Einstein Recedes. “We hold President Duterte accountable for allowing the hero’s burial of a villainous figure in Philippine history.”

He stressed the Marcos burial “proves that Duterte’s political debt to the Marcoses far outweighs the people’s cries for justice, thus exposing his promises of pursuing change and asserting nationalism as empty rhetoric of a double-faced ‘trapo.’”

He said that Duterte is simply continuing the legacy of the past administrations of the two Aquinos, Arroyo, Estrada and Ramos, “all of which did not decisively punish the Marcoses and their cronies and even allowed them to occupy positions in government.”

Anakbayan also vowed to stand up against “Marcosian” threats like the continuation of the Aquino regime’s counterinsurgency war Oplan Bayanihan (OPB), the proposal to suspend the writ of habeas corpus, the proposed revival of the abusive Philippine Constabulary and unceasing extrajudicial killings.

Bonifacio Ilagan, spokesman of the Coalition Against the Return of the Marcoses to MalacaƱang (Carmma), likewise called on other cause-oriented and human rights organizations to participate in the anti-Marcos burial mass action on November 25.

Carmma is one of the petitioners in the case opposing the Marcos’ burial at the heroes’ cemetery, collaborating with Bayan Muna in a bid to prevent the funeral.

He noted that Carmma is in strong coordination with other protesting groups including religious congregations and schools for the grand rally.

Another group against the Marcoses, the Coalition Against Marcos Burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (CAMB-LNMB), is making plans for possible protest actions this coming week.
