The commemoration of All Saints’ Day in 99 cemeteries in Metro Manila yesterday was generally peaceful, a police official said.
“We did not receive any report of any untoward incident with policemen deployed not only in cemeteries but also in other areas rendering anti-criminality duties,” said Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Albayalde said they received no reports of major crime incidents in the whole of Metro Manila.
It was also generally peaceful for the rest of the country, according to Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, Philippine National Police spokesman, except for a vehicular accident monitored in Northern Mindanao.
Albayalde inspected the police units deployed to secure several cemeteries in the metropolis.
He said at least one million residents have visited the North Cemetery in Manila by mid-afternoon.
“I’ve rushed here at the North Cemetery amid reports that the number of Filipinos who would visit their departed loved ones would reach its peak of two million,” said Albayalde.
“I will personally supervise the deployment of policemen when the crowd increased by two-folds.”
At least 7,700 police officers were deployed to secure cemeteries in Metro Manila on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.
The NCRPO chief said overcrowding in the cemeteries could be minimized since many people have been visiting the cemeteries since Saturday.
“The Filipinos have learned their lesson. They are now very organized in coming in and out of the cemeteries and only a few violated our rule banning the bringing in of banned items,” Albayalde said, noting that the pointed objects the police officers confiscated yesterday were ice picks and scissors used in breaking ice cubes.
According to Albayalde, police officers will continue to guard transport terminals as they expect the return of commuters and motorists to Metro Manila after spending the All Saints’ Day in the provinces.
