Ten Abu Sayyaf bandits and four soldiers were killed during a heavy firefight in Patikul, Sulu, Friday morning.
Army Major Felimon I. Tan Jr., the spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom), said troops from the 35th Infantry Battalion led by Major Saddama were on patrol operations when it encountered more or less 150 fully armed Abu Sayyaf bandits led by ASG Leader RadullanSahiron at Sitio Dyundangan, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul, Sulu.
When the smoke of heavy gunfire that lasted for 45 minutes cleared, 10 bandits were killed. On the government side, four soldiers were killed while nine others were wounded who were airlifted to Camp Navarro General hospital in Zamboanga city.
Pursuit operations continue to Sulu to end the ASG’s reign of terror in the region and rescue the more than a dozen hostages in their custody.
