PAGASA Downgrades 'Lawin' from Supertyphoon to Typhoon

Typhoon Lawin (international name Haima) has slightly weakened while traversing Apayao province, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday morning.

 
At 4 a.m., the eye of the typhoon was located in the vicinity of Kabugau, Apayao and packs maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 285 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is likely to move west northwest at 25 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said the typhoon is expected to exit the landmass via Ilocos Norte between 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday. It is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening.


Heavy to intense rainfall is expected within the 400-kilometer inner diameter of the typhoon.

Areas within northern and central Luzon are warned against possible flash floods and landslides.
