Lawin Accelerates, 11 Areas Under Signal No. 1

While Typhoon Lawin remains over the Philippine Sea, eleven areas in the north and east of Luzon have been placed under tropical cyclone warning signal number 1.


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in its 11:00 p.m. bulletin, listed down the following areas under storm signal number 1:



  • Cagayan including Calayan Group of Islands

  • Apayao

  • Kalinga

  • Mountain Province

  • Ifugao

  • Isabela

  • Quirino

  • Nueva Vizcaya

  • Northern Aurora

  • Polillo Islands

  • Catanduanes




  • Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) has slightly accelerated, with speeds of up to 25 kph, as it continued heading west northwest.

    It was last spotted at 950 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

    The typhoon packs up maximum sustained winds of up to 185 kph and gusts reaching 230 kph.




    Moderate to heavy rains are expected within its slightly decreased 650 km diameter.

    PAGASA said it still expects the typhoon to intensify further into a super typhoon before making landfall over Cagayan area by Thursday morning, October 21.

    It is expected to cross Apayao and Ilocos Norte before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility by early Friday morning, possibly toward southeastern China.
