President Rodrigo Duterte said a large portion of the $16-billion fund secured during his trip to China will go to the government’s education, agriculture and health programs.
The Chief Executive announced this Sunday when he visited victims of super typhoon Lawin in Isabela province.
Duterte told local officials and residents of the province that his recent state visit to Beijing yielded a total $24 billion investment and loan pledges. He, however, clarified that: “Yung $24 billion hindi sa atin lahat iyon,” adding that the amount included private-sector deals.
Of the total amount, he said $16 billion was secured by the Philippine government and will be used for the benefit of the Filipino people. “The $16 billion, that is equivalent to more than half a trillion pesos. Kaya yan ay inaasahan ko next year,” the President said.
