President Duterte yesterday said that he will consult with his Cabinet secretaries whether or not to enforce a nationwide firecracker ban during the Christmas season.
In a press conference before leaving for his visits to Brunei and China at the F. Bangoy International Airport here, he said that he is going to leave it up to his Cabinet secretaries whether firecracker ban will be implemented nationwide.
“I am going to have a Cabinet meeting kasi mawalan ng negosyo – economic, social lahat na so I would need the Cabinet to decide. It would be a cabinet decision,” he said.
Duterte, who served mayor of the city for 22 years, banned the sale of firecrackers in the city in 2001.
Opposition to the manufacture and sake of firecrackers was sparked anew last week after an explosion jolted a pyrotechnics store in Bocaue, Bulacan, which resulted in the death of two individuals.
Several establishments and vehicles were also destroyed as a result of the powerful blast.
