President Rodrigo Duterte confirmed his plan to visit China this month on the heels of criticisms from long-time ally the United States over mass killings in his bloody war against drugs.
Duterte is expected to visit Beijing on Oct. 19 to 20, just a few months after the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines against China on maritime entitlements in the South China Sea.
The President's itinerary for his visit is being finalized, along with security arrangements during his stay in Beijing. His advance parties will leave for the Chinese capital 10 days before his state visit.
Duterte's upcoming trip follows his attendance at the ASEAN Leaders' Summit in Laos and succeeding state visits in Indonesia and Vietnam.
