The Department of Education (DepEd) publicly apologized for mistakenly posting false information about class suspensions for Metro Manila on Thursday.
The agency admitted that they got the information from a fake account impersonating a "trusted" government agency.
"In an effort to catch all announcement from different sources (government agencies, LGUs, schools, etc), a tweet from a fake account of a trusted agency was quoted," DepEd said in a statement issued on Thursday.
DepEd said that they had deleted the tweet, but not before it was shared by several outlets.
"This apology comes with the appeal to the public to refrain from unverified or malicious #walangpasok announcements," DepEd said.
"Let us also be reminded of the policy that suspension of classes due to inclement weather is the discretion of the LGUs. Please wait for their announcement of class suspension," it added.
