The House Committee on Justice is holding Ronnie Dayan in contempt
for ignoring its summons, as well as a show cause order previously
issued for his appearance in the probe.
The panel also ordered Dayan's arrest.
According to Majority
floor leader Rudy Fariñas, Dayan seemed to be deliberately ignoring
the show cause order issued against him, as the document was received
by a certain Edward Dayan.
"It is obvious that Dayan refuses
without any justifiable excuse to heed the summons subpoena duly sent by
the speaker," Fariñas said during the hearing on Monday night.
He moved for Dayan to be cited in contempt, and the panel voted in favor of his motion.
Dayan is identified by witnesses as Senator Leila De Lima's former
driver and body guard, who also supposedly collected drug money for the
former justice secretary.
Meanwhile, several other witnesses testified before the House Justice
Committee that they gave money for Sen. De Lima's campaign.
In his affidavit, convicted drug lord Peter Co said as early as 2012,
Chinese inmates already shelled out about P10 million supposedly for
the former Justice Secretary's campaign in 2013.
The money reached De Lima thru fellow inmate Hans Tan, he said.
Sometime in March 2016, Co says says a certain "Jad," whom he identified as De Lima's nephew, demanded more cash.
Aside from cash, Co said, "Jad" also took four of his (Co's) vehicles.
Another inmate, Vicente Sy, also said that he personally saw De Lima inside inmate Jaybee Sebastian's kubol.
According to Sy, Sebastian called for a meeting then, and told them in front of the
former Secretary that they had to sell drugs to fund her campaign.
Aside
from shelling out at least a million pesos for De Lima's campaign, Sy
said former Bureau of Corrections Director Franklin Bucayu also demanded
money through his assistant identified as a certain "Colonel Ellie."
Meantime, Rommel Falcasantos said he used to encash checks for De Lima.
Falcasantos
used to work as one of De Lima's security aides, along with Joenel
Sanchez who is tagged by other witnesses as De Lima's bag man.
During the 2016 elections campaign period, he said De Lima authorized him to encash checks worth between ₱100,000 and ₱300,000.
However, Falcasantos said he never saw who issued the checks because these were kept in an envelope.
Diaz attached to his affidavit a receipt showing he transferred ₱5,000 to Sanchez.
