Aguirre to Offer Immunity to Kerwin

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said he will offer immunity as state witness to alleged drug lord Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr., the son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., in connection with drug charges against Senator Leila de Lima.

“Kung papayag siya. But I’m sure papayag yun (If he is willing. But I bet he will want to),” said Aguirre during a press briefing late Monday afternoon at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila.

Aguirre, however, said Kerwin will still have to undergo the assessment process of the DOJ’s Witness Protection Program (WPP).

“Kung papasa sa assessment ng WPP then we are going to offer immunity to Kerwin (If he will pass the assessment then we are going to offer him immunity),” he told reporters.

Since Kerwin is also facing numerous charges once he returns to the Philippines, the Justice secretary assured that the DOJ will study on what cases he can be offered immunity.
