Senate Majority Leader Vicente C. Sotto III and Sen. Joseph “JV” Ejercito supported yesterday an order of President Duterte that government officials and employees must undergo lifestyle check to support his anti-crime, anti-illegal drugs and anti-corruption campaign.
The President had directed the NBI to undertake the lifestyle check of members of the government bureaucracy.
“Dapat lang (It is right). A life of simple living is needed, (since) we are in public service,” Ejercito said in a DWIZ radio interview yesterday.
Ejercito also said he has known the President for so long and he knows him as having “simple joys” and he is a “simple man” without the trappings of government power.
“Walang garbo. Walang extravagance. Noong mayor siya, sasakyan niya pick-up,” he pointed out.
Sotto, on the other said, said he supports the President desire to have a clean government.
“In fact, we are supporting the enactment of the FOI (Freedom of Information) bill so that anybody can get information on government records,” Sotto said in reference to the unlocking of financial records of government personnel.
“I also support the (proposed) Expanded Wiretapping Law (authored by Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson). They can check my house. All they will see is my house-office-golf game routine,” Sotto said.
