Senator Manny Pacquiao defended his motion for the Senate to oust Senator Leila De Lima as chair of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, Monday night.

Days after a confessed former vigilante killer testified before the commitee that President Rodrigo Duterted ordered the summary execution of suspected criminals in Davao City when he was still mayor, Pacquiao moved to declare the justice panel vacant.
Pacquiao, who is also from Mindanao and is a close ally of Duterte had this to say:
"Gusto po natin na ang committee ay para sa taong bayan, hindi lang pangsarili."
[Translation: We want the committee for the people not just for personal claim.]
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano delivered a scathing privilege speech, before Pacquiao's motion, accusing De Lima of using the committee to go after Duterte.
De Lima walked out during Cayetano's privilege speech. She said she would answer the allegations in her own speech on Tuesday.
In an interview, De Lima accused Duterte of causing her ouster.
