Robin Padilla doesn't see anything wrong with celebrities performing inside the New Bilibid Prison.
In an article by PEP online, Padilla was quoted as saying that he has nothing against it and that he, in fact, encouraged it when he was detained for illegal possession of firearms.
“Sa akin, hindi ko naman ‘yan kinokontra. In-encourage ko pa nga ‘yan,” he said. “Nagtayo pa nga ako ng sining dati sa loob ng Bilibid kasi kasama ‘yan sa rehabilitation. Number one, ‘yan ang psychological level ng bilanggo o kahit na sino. Importante dalahin mo sa arts.”
Padilla, however, clarified that performances inside the prison should not be used for illegal activities.
“Kasi ako dati, ilang beses kong dinala dati ang ABS-CBN doon, Channel 7, nung ako’y nakakulong. Ang daming pumupuntang artista roon, nagpe-perform. Hindi masama iyon. Ang masama, yung pang-aabuso, magdala ka ng alak, magdala ka ng drugs, mali 'yon,” he said.
In Tuesday's House probe into the alleged smuggling of drugs at the national penitentiary during the term of Senator Leila De Lima as Justice secretary, one of the six witnesses bared the names of celebritis who allegedly performed for drug lords and inmates.
Included in the list are Sharon Cuneta, Mocha Girls and Freddie Aguilar, among others.
The witness stated that these drug lords and inmates enjoyed various perks and privileges though at maximum security, due to lax supervision from De Lima and the Bureau of Corrections.
Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, Cuneta's husband, earlier released a statement explaining the star's decision to perform inside the New Bilibid Prison in 2012.
