Senator Leila de Lima should blame herself – and not President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD) – for losing the chairmanship of Senate committee probing extrajudicial killings in the country, a Palace official said.
Chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo said De Lima’s ouster by the majority of senators was “an eloquent proof of her undoing and reckless abuse of her position as Senator.”
In a statement, Panelo said: “De Lima’s removal as chairperson is a comeuppance or a deserved rebuke from her peers in the Senate.”
The Palace official insisted that the President had no hand in De Lima’s latest predicament, saying such intrusion alleged by De Lima was “anathema to his character”.
“PRRD does not interfere with the affairs of an equal branch of the government nor does he influence the outcome of any of its activity,” he said. “Not wanting to blame herself for creating the circumstances that led to her ouster De Lima points to PRRD as her escape goat for her present predicament,” he added.
