The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Sunday urged the private sector to come up with innovative projects and technological breakthroughs which may help the agency's efforts in fulfilling its mandates.
MMDA General Manager and concurrent Officer-in-Charge Tim Orbos said in a statement that MMDA welcomes suggestions and collaborations with the private sector and individuals, both local and foreign, in coming up with IT-based solutions to support its various mandates, including flood control, solid waste management, health and public safety and urban planning and renewal.
“We are continuously encouraging them to engage the agency about their concepts and technological solutions. We know that there are individuals and groups out there who are willing to help the government,” Orbos said.
Orbos said that some people and organizations have expressed willingness to share their expertise to address the continuing problems in Metro Manila, such as massive flooding and solid waste disposal.
The agency has been able to curb flooding in low-lying areas of the metropolis but Orbos said there is still room for improvement.
“We are aware that talents abound in our country. That’s why we are appealing to them to share their know-how on these concerns to the agency,” he said.
A technical working group will accept and eventually assess the feasibility of the proposals, which will be subject to Orbos' approval.
The MMDA also eyes the use of drones equipped with cameras to work with the agency's present monitoring system.
