A losing vice gubernatorial bet in Sulu and three other persons were arrested near Camp Crame, the Philippine National Police headquarters, for alleged gunrunning to customers who supposedly include the Abu Sayyaf and warlords in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Unding Kenneth Isa, who ran as an independent in the May elections, Haja Risdimona Isa, Aljamer Akarab Mandih and Hurbin Alhi Sahibul were arrested Saturday, September 24 when the Anti-Transnational Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group served a search warrant at No.8 Unit 4, 3rd West Crame, Barangay West Crame, San Juan City.
The ATCU seized a cache of M203 grenade launchers, an M14 and MI6 rifles, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Acting CIDG director Chief Superintendent Roel Obusan said they received information in July that Isa and a certain “Wahid,” both natives of Indanan, Sulu led a group shipping weapons from Manila to Zamboanga City, from where these were transferred to Jolo.
The guns were allegedly hidden in SUVs.
In August, Isa and Wahid allegedly met Abu Sayyaf members who were in Manila to purchase M203s and M14 rifles, bomb components and ammunition, apparently to beef up their armaments to fight government forces and for kidnapping and bombing operations.
According to the CIDG, it was part of the shipment, earmarked for Basilan and Sulu, which was seized in West Crame.
